The process of evaluation for repair or replacement involves multiple studies, outside agency permit document development, and drafting a design based on those studies. Early on, it was evident that repair was not an option, and that a full replacement of the bridge was necessary to ensure not only safety, but to account for current conditions and stability of the structure for years to come.
Currently, the needed studies continue, drafting of design documents is ongoing and required bidding documents are being written. This process includes multiple agencies; FEMA, DEP and Army Corp of Engineers to name a few. While it is still too early to definitively predict a date that replacement will be completed, the target date for completion is March of 2023.
Next steps:
• The township engineer will complete the bidding documents and the Board of Commissioners will vote to advertise the bid opening
• The engineer will review received bids and recommend a contract for Board of Commissioners' approval, which will include a project schedule
• The selected contractor will be given notice to proceed and they will begin work on the project
