Beaver Creek Trail Project (Ongoing)

The Beaver Creek Trail is envisioned as an approximately three mile long community multi-use trail that will help to reduce automobile dependence for Caln Township residents, improve pedestrian and bicycle access to the existing parks and trails, better facilitate pedestrian and bicycle travel between Thorndale and Downingtown,
and expand off-road recreational opportunities for people in the community. The trail also represents part of the future Chester Valley Trail West, which aims to connect the current Chester Valley Trail with the Enola Low Grade Trail in Lancaster (eventually creating a bikeable route from Harrisburg to Philadelphia).

Progress to date:
  • In 2023, the Brandywine Conservancy awarded Caln a $7,500 mini grant to conduct a wetland survey and begin identifying a likely trail alignment for Segment 4.
  • In 2022, Caln was awarded a $70,000 DCED Greenways, Trails, and Recreation Program Grant to begin engineering and design for Segment 5 of the trail. Engineering is ongoing while we seek additional funding to bring segment 5 to a "shovel ready" state.
  • In 2019, The Brandywine Conservancy, along with the township and the Chester County Planning Commission drafted the Beaver Creek Trail Feasibility Study. The study recommendations were accepted by the Board of Commissioners at their February 13, 2020 meeting (Resolution 2020-10).
  • In 2018, the township worked with the Chester County Planning Commission on the Chester Valley Trail West feasibility study which incorporated the Beaver Creek Trail
  • In 2015, the township drafted a staff report - proposing a multi-use trail along beautiful Beaver Creek
