Picture
Caln Township would like to remind residents and business owners that there are zoning regulations governing special use, temporary and promotional signs as defined in the Code of Caln Township Chapter 155-151. Included in these regulations are banners, flags, balloons, floodlights and other similar promotional features.

In order to utilize any of the aforementioned devices a permit is required and there are size, location and timeframe limitations that apply.

These regulations are meant not to hinder use, rather to assure that the safety, security and ascetics of the community are kept up to the standards you expect. Thank you for your cooperation.

Chester County Fire Chiefs Association Launches Volunteer Recruitment Campaign

3/2/2018

Picture
The Chester County Fire Chiefs Association (CCFCA) is excited to announce it has launched a new volunteer recruitment and awareness campaign.
The focus of this new campaign will be to promote the importance of volunteerism and encourage residents to become a firefighter, fire police, EMT, junior firefighter or administrative volunteer by visiting HelpFightFire.com.

The CCFCA is the advisory body to 55 separate volunteer fire departments and companies located in Chester County, all of which have volunteer opportunities within their respective locations.

As part of the kick-off to the recruitment campaign, the CCFCA unveiled its newest slogan “Volunteer Today. Chester County Lives Depend on It,” which will be included in all print and electronic materials sent to the community. In addition, the CCFCA has rebooted its website, to help prospective volunteers understand the vital role they can play in protecting their community. The website also includes a volunteer inquiry form they can fill out.

There are a variety of opportunities available for prospective volunteers:

  • Firefighters: Help save lives and protect property in your community. In the exciting world of firefighting volunteers learn to do things like advance a hose line, perform search-and-rescue operations, and position ladders strategically. Training and equipment needed to stay safe is provided free of charge.

  • EMTs: Help save lives by transporting the sick and injured to the hospital. Volunteers are there to respond to specialized calls like auto accidents, carbon monoxide alarms and other rescue calls. Again, training and equipment is provided.

  • Fire Police: Help keep an emergency situation safe by directing traffic and crowds and providing general assistance to other first responders.

  • Junior Firefighters: Gain experience around a fire house as a teen, lend a hand and begin fire training that will prepare you to become a full member at 18 years old. Volunteering as a junior firefighter is also a great way to secure community service hours.

  • Administrative volunteers: Non-emergency volunteers play a huge role. They help teach fire safety, assist in fundraising event, help with bookkeeping, human resources, website maintenance and other duties. Whatever the skill set, we can use it.

The new campaign will also develop content to post on the official Help Fight Fire social media accounts as well as billboard and movie theater advertisements and production, press releases and other print and electronic materials. For more information on volunteer opportunities available near you, visit HelpFightFire.com.

A message from the Chief of Police: School Safety

3/2/2018

In the aftermath of the horrific school shooting in Parkland, Florida on February 14, 2018, we continue to send our children to school; an environment where students and staff should feel safe.  Nonetheless, as is the case after many of these tragic events, the spread of copycat threats on Snapchat and other social media outlets add to the anxiety.  Though most appear to be hoaxes, school administrators and police departments remain on high alert for copycat threats and students or others who are motivated to threaten or engage in similar behavior.
During the past week our department, and police departments throughout the country, investigated numerous potential threats, most posted by students on social media, prompting temporary lockdowns and in some school districts cancellation of classes and postponed events.  Fortunately, in the incidents investigated here in the township by our department, the investigations determined that no credible threats existed.   There are many reasons why students or others post these threats; most are hoaxes.  We don’t treat them as hoaxes or pranks.  The act of making a threat is against the law, whether it is real or not, and there are serious legal consequences.
We value the use of social media.  If you or your student see or hear anything that could cause harm to students or staff, please report it immediately to school officials and contact police.  We ask that students and parents refrain from sharing or reposting information, pictures, or video on social media without any verification regarding its accuracy.  It is imperative that the use of social media does not create mass hysteria by posting inaccurate information, rumors, or unverified information, photos or video.
Parents, please talk to your children about the appropriate use of social media, and monitor their social media accounts.  Have conversations at home regarding safety at school and other locations.  We need to continue to live the way we live, but at the same time be vigilant about school safety and immediately report any suspicious activity in or around our school buildings.  As a precautionary measure, and to ease some of the anxiety in the wake of recent events, our department has increased patrols around schools in the township, and we continue to work together as a community with school police and officials to ensure the well-being and safety of everyone.
