OPENING:
  • Review & approve June 19th Meeting Minutes

OLD BUSINESS:

  • Caln Township needs an updated and enhanced Zoning Ordinance to protect historical properties. Project cancelled by township manager at the Commissioner s meeting. Report by Jim Spaulding.

  • Historical Commission Plan Checklist Report delayed: Review Plan to fulfill Commission goals in Chapter 4: Historical and Cultural Resources Section C: Historical and Cultural Resources Plan. Jim Spaulding will present report on July 17th, 2019.

  • Griffith / Spackman Farm Report: Paul Stephens, Historic Architect, offered his services to inspect the Farm and assist development of a recovery plan. Motion 190619-3 requests approval from the Caln Commissioners for Stephens to inspect the Farm with the assistance of Township personnel before 07/12/2019 and report on July 17th, 2019.

  • Questions and concerns about the Farm. Motion 190619-4 authorizes Mark Evans to write a letter asking specific questions about budget items, quotes, proposals, documents and inspections that affect plans for the Farm,  to the Board of Commissioners, and then report at the July 17th, 2019 meeting.

  • Caln Township Webpage defines our Vision as;  “The Historical Commission serves in an advisory capacity for the establishment and implementation of a historic preservation plan, to review and advise on proposed activities affecting historic resources, and to provide information on historic resources to the citizens of the township.”

  • Goals, Activities, Affairs: Caln Township 150th Anniversary (on website): ​Caln Historical Trolley Tour / Historic Tavern Crawl / Thorndale Walking Tour / 150th Anniversary 5k Run/Walk.

  • Webpage: Image?  Rotating image of our historical resources? How help our residents? Awareness? Education? Recreation?

  • Brain-storm ‘gotcha mottos’ for historical image & perspective.
    Example: “X” marks the spot: “Thorndale”

  • Operation, Connections, Agenda, Minutes, Executive  meetings, Sub-committees, , interaction with other groups (liaisons)

  • Command and Control: Do we do work? Do we ask Office to do work? Does Caln office tell us what to do?

  • Standards: format, detail level, formality of Agendas, Meeting Minutes, Motions, Reports?

  • Identification: formality level, Contact info, members vs guests vs residents, webpage ?  <you@calnhistoricalcommission>

  • Report and recommendations from Cheryl Spaulding cancelled

 
NEW BUSINESS:

  • Remove and  replace  inactive members (Patty DeFroscia , Candice Monhollan-Henry, Dawn Coughlan). Inactive seats drives quorum  up, so if someone is absent for any reason, we may miss quorum.
    .
    • PROPOSED MOTION: The Historical Commission approves a motion to dismiss inactive members while respectfully and politely thanking them for their assistance.

    • PROPOSED MOTION: The Historical Commission approves a motion to request the Caln Board of Commissioners to replace three members with Historical Commission nominees.

    • PROPOSED MOTION: Find and / or create bylaws for Historical Commission to define operational rules.

FUTURE BUSINESS:

  • Suggestions for Beaver Creek Trail: for example:
    • Lloyd family, history, park, street
    • Dr. Lloyd and her contribution to child education

  • Extension from Beaver Creek Trail to kings highway Park
    • Spackman / Gifford history Kings Highway Park
    • Quaker Meeting House Museum

  • Extension to PRR Philadelphia-Thorndale Line
    • History of the Line & Uniqueness of engineering
    • History of Thorndale and steel/iron industry here.
