Catherine Kennedy was born on August 30th, 1912 in Gulf Mills, PA and graduated from Gordon High School in Coatesville in 1930. She married J. Hubert “Hubie” McMullen in 1932. After living in a few different rentals throughout the area, the couple built a new house in 1951 at Corey Farm, where Kay has lived ever since. Kay worked at the Department of Welfare, Collins and Aikman Corporation and later at Pepperidge Farm where she worked with sales statistics. She retired from Pepperidge Farm in 1977. Kay volunteered for Meals on Wheels, was a member of the Amaranth Masonic Organization, and was very active in Trinity Lutheran Church where her husband was the choir director.
Today, Kay has 2 sons, 5 grandchildren, and 8 great grandchildren. She is a member of Caln Privileged Citizens and enjoys cooking and playing bridge.
Caln Privileged Citizens organization held a special celebration for Kay’s birthday on Wednesday, September 13th at the Caln Township Community Building. Representatives from State Senator John Rafferty's office and State Rep Harry Lewis's office, along with members of the Caln Township Board of Commissioners presented Kay with birthday proclamations. Proclamations from Senators Casey and Toomey and Governor Wolf were also presented. Dr. Taschner gave Kay a special gift from the Coatesville Area School District. The Caln Privileged Citizens provided snacks and beverages and Giant Food donated a cake. Crews from ABC6, NBC10, and WCHE 1520 AM covered the event for the media.
Caln Privileged Citizens, which was founded in 1973, is open to all Caln Township residents, aged 60 and over. They meet the second Wednesday of each month at the Caln Township Municipal Building at 1:00pm.
