Stronger Together: Communities Investing in EMS

8/27/2025

Replacement of Ambulance 46-3
Downingtown, PA - Minquas EMS is proud to announce the replacement of Ambulance 46-3 which represents more than just a new vehicle for Minquas EMS — it marks a historic milestone in community partnership. For the first time in our organization’s history, five municipalities—East Caln, Downingtown, Caln, West Bradford, and East Brandywine—have come together to directly support the purchase of an ambulance for their residents.

This kind of collaboration is uncommon. Across Pennsylvania, only about 1 in 5 EMS agencies receive municipal funding, and
nationwide, fewer than 3 in 10 benefit from this type of investment. By taking this unprecedented step, our municipalities have placed our region among a small group of communities that recognize EMS as an essential part of public safety and are willing to fund it accordingly.

This ambulance is more than a piece of equipment—it is a commitment to ensuring that every call for help is answered with reliable, advanced resources. It is also proof of what can be accomplished when local governments and EMS providers work hand-in-hand for the safety and well-being of the people they serve.

“This is truly a historic moment for Minquas EMS and the communities we serve. For the first time, our municipalities have joined together to invest directly in the future of emergency medical services. Their leadership not only ensures we can respond with the best resources available today but also sets an example across Pennsylvania of how collaboration can strengthen public safety for generations to come.” — Derek Dry, EMS Executive Director, Minquas EMS

Zoning Hearings - September 4, 2025

8/12/2025

Notice is hereby given that the Caln Township Zoning Hearing Board shall hold two public hearings on September 4, 2025, 7:00 p.m., in the Township building, 253 Municipal Dr., Thorndale, PA 19372.  The hearing will be to consider the following applications: (1) the application of Alan and Michael Cohen related to their property at 4109 Lincoln Highway, Caln Township. Applicants request: special exception approval under Zoning Ordinance Section 155-35.D(2) (allowing for earth disturbance/improvement within the 50 foot wetland buffer zone); and variances under Zoning Ordinance Section 155-54.C(2) (allowing townhomes within the 25’ setback from property boundary), Section 155-113.A (allowing a reduced clear sight triangle of 65 feet at an intersection on the property), and Section 155-138.D (relief from the requirement of an off-street loading space). The zoning relief is sought in efforts by Applicants to construct a townhouse development in place of the existing truck and vehicle parts junkyard. (2) the Application of 201 Reeceville, LLC and Real Estate Venture, LLC, for the properties located at 201 Reeceville Road, Coatesville, PA (TPN: 39-3-18) and 1501 Fisherville Road, Coatesville, PA (TPN: 39-3-19) (collectively the “Property”). Applicants are seeking: (1) variance relief from Zoning Ordinance Sections 155-28.B-D  to allow multiple primary uses on the Property, wherein only one principal use is permitted per lot in the C-2 Zoning District; and (2)  a variance from Zoning Ordinance Section 155-28.G to allow the filing of a zoning and/or building permit in connection with any proposed by-right use on the Property, not involving any additional building or impervious coverage, rather than requiring formal subdivision and land development approval to allow each by-right use.  The zoning relief is sought in order to permit multiple tenant uses on the Property.
Copies of the applications may be examined at the Township building (address above) without charge or obtained for a charge not greater than the copying cost thereof.  If you wish to attend the hearing and are a person with a disability requiring an auxiliary aide, service or other accommodation to participate in the proceeding or attend the hearing, please contact the Township Office (610-384-0600) to discuss how the Township can best accommodate your needs.
