Parks & Rec Minutes
June 1, 2026 @ 7pm

Tonight’s meeting will be a hybrid meeting – both via Microsoft Teams and in person at the township building.
  1. Call to Order
  2. Attendees: Helen Eckel-Wiener, Kathryn Brauchle, Liz Malone, Sam Wiener, Anne Duzan, and Jane Kennedy
Staff Present: Abbey Swan

The Parks and Recreation June 1, 2026, agenda was posted on the Township website and at the township building on May 30st, 2026. Agendas were made available to the public at the meeting. The 2026 Parks and Recreation meeting schedule was published in the Daily Local News on December 18, 2025.

  1. Public Comment – Resident Linda R. asked for an update about the Kings Highway Park Plan. Abbey provided an update and said she will post the information on the township website.
  2. Minutes approved – May 4th, 2026
    1. A motion was made to approve the May 4th, 2026 minutes with one typo correction. Moved by Anne and seconded by Helen, the motion passed unanimously.
  3. Old business
    1. Summer Series Planning – July 18th (National Treasure) and August 15th (Newsies): Sam, Helen, and Anne plan to attend on July 18th but Liz and Katie are unavailable. Abbey and Brett will also be there to help in July, but JoEllen will attend the August 15th event since Abbey will be away. Abbey will find out what Texas Roadhouse will be doing – Anne asked if we need to provide popcorn if they’re bringing snacks. Jessica also lined up Alsie’s ice cream truck for one of them. Abbey will work on a puzzle-type activity to being at 7:30 before National Treasure. The event will start at 7:30 so Parks and Rec will aim to arrive at 6:00. The group discussed various newspaper-related events for the Newsies night. Everyone except Abbey plans to attend that night.
    2. Accessibility Features in Caln Township Parks: Jessica was contacted about accessibility options in the park. Abbey mentioned that future park improvements will include additional accessibility features. Abbey will look into what other parks staff do.
  4. New Business
    1. Bishop Shanahan Sand Volleyball Court Reservations: Parks and Rec previously approved a permit for Driven Dragons and voted to allow Bishop Shanahan to reserve the courts as well, as long as the schedules can be worked out. Helen motioned to allow the Bishop Shanahan Volleyball team to reserve the Lloyd Park courts, schedule allowing. Seconded by Sam. Passed unanimously.
    2. Art in the Park: Urban Sketching Walking Audit at Beaver Creek– June 6th: As of the meeting, there hadn’t been too many sign ups but Abbey and Jess will continue to promote it. Abbey pointed out that this is the first event Parks and Rec has hosted in Lloyd Park! Drew was booked again for a portrait photography session in the meadow in August. Jessica was looking for another instructor but Abbey proposed that we stick to the two classes if she hasn’t enlisted anybody yet.
    3. Clean Up Crew Planning – July 12th: The group decided to meet at the Township building at 10:00 to work our way downstream from Municipal Drive. Abbey will work on advertising. The group briefly discussed grass mowing in the parks. We also discussed Art in the Park plans including the first session about stream animals and the Spackman-Davis Farm Picnic event.
