  • Mr. Parr detailed the Sunday Open Houses that require coverage.

    • October 4th – full group for final event
  • Ms. Swan will put the Historical Commission canopy in the schoolhouse

• Schoolhouse Landscaping Presentation
  • Anne Duzan, who served as chair of the township’s EAC and vice-chair of the Parks and Rec board presented her ideas for new landscaping around the Hexagonal Schoolhouse. The project would reimagine the entire area in front of the township building, adding accessible activity spaces, a new Christmas tree, rain gardens and a wet meadow. The group discussed moving the memorial bench closer to the building and making the time capsule more prominent.
  • Mr. Vymazal mentioned some potential grant opportunities.

Ms. DiPrinzio entertained a motion to recommend Anne’s project to the Board. Mr. M Evans motioned, Mr. J Evans seconded. Motion passed unanimously.

• June 21st Schoolhouse Tours (OCHS Request)
  • Ms. DiPrinzio passed along a request from the Old Caln Historical Society that the Historical Commission open the schoolhouse for tours on June 21, the day of their historic trolley tour. Trolley tours will begin and end at the township building. Many members offered to help, assuming that clean up from the picnic will be completed previously or on Monday.

• Parkesburg Meeting Debrief
  • In February members of the group met with the Parkesburg historical commission. They summarized some ideas that were exchanged.
• Partnering with Coatesville Historical Commission
  • This item was included accidentally on the agenda and will be removed in upcoming versions.
• Town Tours and Village Walks Update – June 18th
  • The Historical Commission’s Town Tour and Village Walks is scheduled for Thursday, June 18th. Mr. Evans noted that the tour will share the legacies of those who frequented the meeting house, contextualizing daily life on the grounds of this 300-year-old landmark.
• CCHPN Membership Contact Info
  • Ms. DiPrinzio will be attending a CCHPN leadership meeting on Saturday, March 29th and CCHPN has requested contact information for HC members. Ms. Swan asked members to indicate on the roster sheet their willingness to have their information shared.
• Other Business:
  • Mr. Thomas will be a presenter at the CCHPN breakfast focusing on Zoning and Historic Preservation.

  • Community Day is on September 12th – Ms. Swan asked the commission to brainstorm some ways to integrate America 250/Dare to Declare into their exhibit at the event.  
•  Spackman Farm 
  • Mark Slouf looked at the floors at the farmhouse and determined that the floors on the west side are no older than the early to mid-20th century.
  • He proposed a phased approach to restoring the floors. Phase one would involve taking up the floors, determining what needs to be replaced/repaired, taking out the two radiators, storing them, and putting down a strong plywood floor.
  • Phase two would be the replacement of wood and finishing the job.
  • The Friends of Spackman Davis Farm are interested in paying for at least one of the phases.
  • A joint contract with the township and the Friends of is being considered, with the Friends of responsible for payment and the township responsible for inspections.

Ms. DiPrinzio entertained a motion to support the flooring repairs. Mr. M Evans motioned, Mr. Parr seconded. Motion passed unanimously.
 

• Marketing And Social Media
  • The group discussed promotional signs for Dare to Declare and America 250. Ms. Swan will bring prices to our next meeting. The CCHPN ledger featuring our add will be in mailboxes soon.

 

• Historical Preservation 
  • Mr. M Evans noted that another Historic Preservation Ordinance meeting will take place on April 1.
  • The board of commissioners voted to approve the township's purchase of Buchanan House Ingleside Manor.
  • Mr. Thomas went through some highlights of his presentation for CCHPN.

 

• Caln At Risk

• OCHS Liaison Report
  • OCHS has an upcoming presentation on Women Patriots in Chester County by Robin Young on March 29th at 2 o'clock at Thorndale Firehouse.
  • They’ll be hosting a Tea party fundraiser at four different houses in the township on May 9th from 1 to 4.
  • Dr. William Watson will do a presentation on the Irish railroad on April 12th at 2 o'clock at the firehouse.

 

• Finance Update 
  • Mr. Thomas presented a finance update: Two payments were made: $206 for a Christmas tree and $600 for the Krapf coach deposit.
  • The remaining total in the fund is $19,194.
  • The group discussed planting a tree at the farm to decorate for the holidays.

 

• Additional Business:

 

• Ms. Swan outlined some other upcoming events being hosted by the Parks and Rec board.
• Mrs. Callahan pointed out some missing trees near Bondsville Mill. Mr. Vymazal will contact East Brandywine for more information.

  • Commissioner Evans noted Commissioner Adam Thomas is the newest HC member. He also reported that the Board is considering updating the Historical Commission bylaws to reduce the number of members in light of the Historic Preservation Ordinance.
•  Events
  • Mr. J Evans asked if any events are planned beyond the Picnic and Town Tour.
  • Mrs. DeFroscia reminded the group that they planned to order a live tree to plant for decorating at the holidays.
  • Mr. M. Evans explained that the Chester County Community Foundation suggested that the Township apply for both their 250 event grant and their smaller, Dare to Declare event. The group discussed hosting a fall Dare to Declare event (possibly with a hot air balloon).
  • Ms. Swan will bring the full township event schedule to the March meeting.
•  Spackman Farm 
  • Commissioner Evans asked about downspout extenders at the farm, Ms. Swan noted that they have been purchased and will be installed once the driveway is clear.
  • Mr. Parr reported that Mrs. DeFroscia and Mrs. Parr helped him take down the holiday decorations. Mrs. DeFroscia confirmed that the Hexagonal Schoolhouse decorations were also removed.
  • Commissioner Evans will connect Ms. Swan with Mark Slouf to schedule a time for him to take a look at the buckled floors.
• Marketing And Social Media
  • Commissioner Evans reported he plans to advertise upcoming events on Facebook once the details are worked out.
  • Commissioner Evans also noted that the Friends of Spackman-Davis Farm will be paying for a marketing video for the 250 events.
• Historical Preservation 
  • Commissioner Evans reported that the two public meetings on the HPO that have been held so far went very well. Other municipalities have asked to borrow the language in the draft.
  • Mr. Vymazal suggested adding a discussion of next steps for the HPO to an upcoming Board of Commissioners workshop meeting. He also suggested hosting a public meeting that the impacted property owners will be notified of.
• Caln At Risk 
  • Mr. Parr reported on the PennDOT meeting which may impact the Vickers’ farm and other nearby historic properties. The project isn’t likely to start for many years.
• OCHS Liaison Report
  • Mrs. DeFroscia mentioned that a meeting is scheduled for this coming Sunday which may be cancelled due to weather. The December House Tours and Carol Concert will very well-received. Ms. Swan mentioned the winter lecture series events.
• Finance Update 
  • Commissioner Thomas will coordinate with Ms. Swan to have a report ready for the March meeting. No funds have been sent as of the meeting.

  • Mrs. Callahan relayed that the vote took place to add Edges Mill to the National Register. The nomination was successful and the paperwork will be sent shortly.

2.1. Joint meeting at Parkesburg HC Feb. 18, 2026

The Commission voted at their November meeting to cancel their regular February meeting and, instead, join the Parkesburg Historical Commission at their meeting. Directions will be sent out closer to that meeting.

2.2. Apply for 2026 Chester County Planning Commission/Chester County Historic Preservation Network Town Tour and Village Walk
The deadline to apply is the end of January. The Commission agreed to apply to host the tour on October 1. 

2.3. Partner with Coatesville HC on Caln History research projects
2.3.1. No follow up at this time, we plan to work with Lisa Doan-Harley on this.

3. Sub-Committee Reports

3.1. MEMBERSHIP – No change

3.2. EVENTS – The 250 Working Group met earlier tonight to flesh out the details for the June 20th event. The event will include the OCHS Trolley Tour, visitors from Calne England, Randell Spackman’s groups will host a skirmish, Chico’s Vibe will perform, vignette performances, Art in the Park, and additional items being considered. The event is scheduled for 1:00-5:00 with lunch served around 2:00.

3.3. SPACKMAN FARM – The decorations at the farm look great (after it fell over last week). For next year, the group discussed asking Public Works to put up the tree and possibly planting a live tree to decorate. Abbey will look into the price of planting a sizeable tree. 
Mr. Evans mentioned that Randell Spackman had pointed out some issues with the house, including the downspouts which need to be redirected. We will pursue some leads on masons and Mark Slouf will be back out to inspect the flooring issues. 
A new contract was signed with the farmer for 2026. 
Mr. Evans mentioned that the entrance gate needs some attention (weeds, repairs, etc.). Perhaps this could be a project for the Boy Scouts.
Mr. Evans updated the group on the sketch plan of the Kings Highway Park project which was recently prepared by Gilmore & Associates. There was general discussion about trails on the property.

3.4. MARKETING AND SOCIAL MEDIA – Mr. Evans showed the group the new “Caln Celebrates America 250” logo.  

3.5. HISTORICAL PRESERVATION – Mr. Evans reported out on the second public meeting to discuss the Historic Preservation Ordinance. All agreed it went very well. That process will proceed independent of the larger Zoning update. 

3.6. CALN AT RISK – Mrs. DeFroscia pointed out that the Pyle Farm is available for rent and mentioned other projects happening on that property. Regal Builders is continuing updates to the Vickers House and are interested in improving the Lloyd House. Mr. Vymazal shared photos of the artifacts from the Lloyd House that are being kept in storage by Regal. The groups discussed the elements that they would prefer be prioritized in any renovations. 

Mr. Evans informed the group that the developers of Main Line Health have agreed to place a plaque on their property documenting the history of the Lloyd Farm. 

3.7. OCHS LIASON REPORT – Mrs. DeFroscia reported that the December OCHS events went very well – Candle Light Christmas Concert and the Open House tours. 60 tickets were sold to benefit the OCHS and one new house was added this year. The Boy Scout parking volunteers were exemplary as always. Mr. Parr mentioned that over 50 people visited the Hexagonal Schoolhouse during the Tree Lighting. 

3.8. FINANCE UPDATE – Ms. DiPrinzio provided a finance update. The current budget balance stands at $1,647.17. 

Mr. Evans asked for a motion to pay the $600 bus rental deposit to Krapf Coaches for next year’s 250th event, from the 2025 Historical Commission funds.

Moved by Mr. Parr, seconded by Mrs. DeFroscia – motion passed 7-0.

4. ADDITIONAL BUSINESS:
Mr. Evans announced that he will be stepping down as Chair in 2026. He commended the Commission members for all of their hard work in 2025.

Approval of 10/15/2025 Minutes

1. New Business:
   1.  CCHPN Membership Renewal - The Historical Commission received their CCHPN Membership Renewal. The Manager advised the Board that as the payment wouldn’t be made until the new year, that a motion should be made to use next year’s budget
      1. A motion was made to approve the expenditure of $125 for the Historical Commission’s membership with the Chester County Historic Preservation Network to come out of the 2026 budget. The motion passed 7-0.
   2.  Joint meeting at Parkesburg HC Feb. 2026 - At the CCHPN Fall Workshop, Mark connected with Casey Wyatt from Parkesburg and proposed to the Commission the idea of having a joint meeting with the Parkesburg Historical Commission at the Parkesburg Borough Hall as we both meet at the same time and day every month. Mark corrected that they are looking for the meeting to be in January 2026. Don mentioned that as we advertise our meetings to take place at the Caln Township Municipal Building, in order to ensure that no official action is taken at an alternate site that would not be accessible to Caln Township residents, we would have to cancel our meeting and then the joint meeting would have to be unofficial. To have it be an official meeting, there would have to be a quorum in Caln, and then the rest of the members could go to Parkesburg and conduct the meeting in a hybrid manner. It was also noted that the January meeting would be the reorganization meeting, and that it would not be able to be held in Parkesburg. The Historical Commission decided to discuss with Parkesburg the joint meeting taking place in February instead.
      1. A motion was made to cancel the February meeting. The motion passed 7-0.
      2. A motion was made to pursue hosting a joint meeting with Parkesburg Historical Commission in February 2026. The motion passed 7-0.
   3.  Apply for 2026 Chester County Planning Commission/Chester County Historic Preservation Network Town Tour and Village Walk – Commissioner Evans asked the Commission if they were interested in applying to host another Town Tour in Caln. Ms. Markovich went over the various themes of 2026’s Town Tours and Village Walks. Mr. Parr suggested that we can reuse the props for the Spackman-Davis Farm tours that will happen at the township’s 250th event. The group discussed that applying for October 1st would be the best, as a tour on this date is meant to incorporate all the themes over the summer.
   4.  Partner with Coatesville HC on Caln History research projects – Commissioner Evans had met with a member of the Coatesville Historical Commission to discuss working together to share historical resources and asked the Commission their thoughts. The rest of the Commission was in agreement that working with the Coatesville Historical Commission would be beneficial. Commissioner Evans also added that other municipalities, such as Coatesville, are interested in partnering with us for an event to showcase how our municipalities once were connected and that many grew from Caln Township.
      1. A motion was made to continue working with the Coatesville Historical Commission. The motion passed 7-0.
2. Old Business:
   1.  HPO Public Meeting Recap - The first public meeting for the HPO was held last week with 35 residents in attendance. They received a lot of feedback from homeowners. Cathy stated that she thought it went well. Commissioner Evans recounted that, specifically, residents want no demolition and no demolition by neglect. He noted that there was some confusion about the section regarding rehab and repairs, but that there is room to rework the language in this section. Mr. Parr asked if there would be a second meeting this year, and Commissioner Evans stated a possible date of December 8th. Mr. Parr asked if there would be enough time to advertise and Mr. Vymazal said yes. Mrs. DeFroscia asked about notifying homeowners, and Commissioner Evans and Mr. Vymazal stated that they collected the email addresses of those who attended the last meeting to notify, in addition to advertising it on the website and in the newspaper. Mrs. Callahan stated that letters should be sent out to all homeowners whose homes are on the list. Mr. Vymazal and Commissioner Evans explained that this is part of a larger zoning change for the entire township, and that more zoning changes will be proposed. If the HPO is included in the larger zoning changes, there are still multiple review stages that the HPO and all other proposed changes would have to go through before anything is approved. They explained that as the HPO is not a stand-alone ordinance itself, that sending letters to just those with historic homes would not be justified.  
   2.  CCHPN Fall Workshop Recap – Commissioner Evans provided a recap of the CCHPN Fall Workshop, remarking it was fantastic. He recounted that there was a large focus on townships, historical commissions, and historical societies working together not only within one municipality but also with neighboring ones. It also focused on historic preservation practices by encouraging property owners to manage any changes that happen to their properties that follow best practices for preservation and to communicate clearly and strategically about the benefits of historic preservation.
   3.  Caln250 Nov Meeting - Commissioner Evans stated that for Caln’s 250 events, we will need to seek out sponsors to cover much of the cost in order to bring everything to fruition. Commissioner Evans also invited anyone who was interested in coming to the planning meeting for it to do so, as it takes place at 5:00 PM before Historical Commission meetings.
3. SUB-COMMITTEE REPORTS:
   1.  MEMBERSHIP - The Board of Commissioners voted to have new membership requirements for volunteers on boards and commissions, which is that once their terms are expiring, they must resubmit an application if they would like to be reappointed rather than an automatic renewal. Commissioner Evans explained that this gives other residents the opportunity to get involved and learn more about the various boards and commissions that Caln has, as well as give an opportunity to those boards and commission members whose terms are expiring to not feel pressured to continue.
   2.  EVENTS – The Historical Commission will be decorating Spackman-Davis Farm on Saturday, December 6th
   3. SPACKMAN FARM - Mark Slouf looked at the floors of the farmhouse and Commissioner Evans will reach back out to him to see what his thoughts are about fixing the floors.
   4. MARKETING AND SOCIAL MEDIA – No updates.
   5.  HISTORICAL PRESERVATION – Covered under the 2.1 HPO Meeting Recap
   6.  CALN AT RISK – Mr. Parr reported that the corn was cut down at Lloyd Farm. He also gave a reminder to have future discussions with Wild Meadows about conducting an inspection of the house on the grounds. Mr. Parr also stated that Main Line Health presented at the Boc Meeting last week. Commissioner Evans added that Main Line Health’s final plan was approved but that adding a historic plaque to the site was a condition added to the plan. Mrs. DeFroscia stated that Justin O’Lear sent an email to the Old Caln Historical Society that he is willing to hose a walk through the Vickers House with members.
   7.  OCHS LIASON REPORT – Mrs. DeFroscia reported that they will be decorating the Old Caln Meetinghouse and the Hexagonal Schoolhouse on December 5th; December 9th is OCHS’ Candlelight Christmas Concert; and the Historic House Tours are on December 13th. Commissioner Evans had asked if tickets were on sale yet and Ms. Markovich said that the page was available.
   8.  FINANCE UPDATE – The newest expenses are a$1,200 payment to Minquas Fire Company for EMS, and a $1,250.96 payment to Jahaco for. Mrs. DiPrinzio reported that the Historical Commission’s current balance is $10,147.17. Mrs. DiPrinzio then corrected her report that the $1,250.96 payment is for a new Historical Commission branded canopy. The Jahaco purchase will be around $8,300.00, and then another expense that is to be added is a $200 payment to Jefferis for a tree at the Spackman-Davis Farm. Remaining in the budget should be around $1,647.00. Mr. Parr reported that there $12.72 was spent on purchasing cleaning supplies for the Hexagonal Schoolhouse.

   1. Bench, picnic tables, trash/recycling can purchase from Jahaco. Mark reported that Jahaco has sent a proposal for 6 benches (plus 1 additional donated bench), 2 picnic tables, and trash/recycling containers for the Kings Highway Park. Mark asked for a motion to recommend the purchase to the Board of Commissioners at a cost of $8,300 from the Historical Commission’s budget for the purchase of 6 6-foot benches, two picnic tables, and one dual trash/recycling container. Motioned by Tom Parr, seconded by Donna DiPrinzio. Motion passed 5-0.

      1. Mark reported that we advertised the final Schoolhouse tour on Facebook and that we’ll start promoting 250 with a new logo in January.

      1. No change on Mainline Health or the Lloyd Farmhouse. The Vickers-Taylor house was discussed at the 250th meeting and we’re waiting on a message from the owner about visiting to take photos. Mark noted that the Hoopes-Pyle Farm (Edges Mill Rd) has been added to the CCHPN’s watch list, since it’s on the market.
   7. OCHS LIASON REPORT –
      1. Patty reported that November 8th will be the annual OCHS banquet with a guest speaker presenting on clay pipes. December 5th, OCHS will decorate the meetinghouse and schoolhouse. December 9th is the annual Candlelight Christmas event. December 13th is the Holiday House Tour (with three houses included).
   8. FINANCE UPDATE –
      1. Donna reported a remaining balance of $12,598.13 in the annual budget. Mark asked for a motion to approve payment of the $1,200 bill from Minquas EMS for services at the picnic. Moved by Tom Parr, seconded by Donna DiPrinzio, motion passed 5-0.
4. ADDITIONAL BUSINESS:
   1. Patty raised some issues with the Hexagonal Schoolhouse and recommended adding an additional step to the entrance. Historic property-owner Samantha Miller offered to provide a stone to use. Abbey will reach out to Curt Eldridge to see if he can help with the door and threshold. Tom offered to purchase cleaning supplies with the donations received this year.

   3. Historic Resource List Approval (Action Item) – The list was updated to include individual addresses in Carver Court and added clarity around a few of the resources. The proposed ordinance allows changes to the resource list as required.

      1. The Commission plans to decorate the farm for the holidays on December 6th. They also discussed a small event at the Farm after the OCHS Open House Tours.
      2. Tom connected with a mason and arranged a meeting at the Farm to get quotes for repairing the stone walls and steps. He’ll also be looking at the stone walls of the house.
      3. Commissioner Evans invited the group to attend the Kings Highway Park Task Force on the fourth Tuesday of each month.
   4. MARKETING AND SOCIAL MEDIA –
      1. Abbey asked for volunteers to be interviewed for a promotional video. Donna offered to participate.
      2. Commissioner Evans updated the group on the new Historical Commission feature in the monthly newsletter. It’s been very well-received!
   5. HISTORICAL PRESERVATION – Addressed above
   6. CALN AT RISK –
      1. Tom reported that Main Line Health met with the Planning Commission, but no recommendation has been rendered yet.
      2. The Vickers’ house is continuing to be worked on by the owner.
      3. Patty reported that the Orangery and Hoopes Farm.
      4. Commissioner Evans proposed the idea of putting a history plaque about the Lloyd Farm up as part of the public space at the Main Line Health campus.
   7. OCHS LIASON REPORT –
      1. Patty asked for details about the December farm event to be included in the advertising for the OCHS House Tours. The Commission discussed logistics related to parking, volunteers, and timing.
   8. FINANCE UPDATE –
      1. Donna reported no change from last month and the remaining budget is $13, 048.13.
      2. The Finance subgroup is working on a budget request for 2026. Commissioner Evans detailed some of the potential plans for America 250 next year, and it’s impact on the commission’s budget.

   1. ​Canopy Purchase (Action Item) – Abbey displayed the proposed canopy design for review. Commissioner Evans asked for a motion to approve the expenditure of $1,2050.96 for a branded canopy. Motion passed unanimously

1. New Business
   1. Bondsville Mill Building Update: Codes received a new request to update the Bondsville Mill building with new beams and stabilization. Tom requested any photos. Mark said the owners have done a great job restoring the building so far and anticipates they will continue to do so. 
   2. Mike Irwin from the Caln Environmental Advisory Council came to present the EAC’s mission and recent Sustainability Report to the Historical Commission. He pointed out the applicability of sustainable practices to historic preservation and adaptive reuse. The EAC is available to support the commission and other boards with research or recommendations. Mark mentioned that Lindsey Beacher is HC EAC liaison and eager to work together. Patty brought up the number of trees marked for removal at Vicker’s house and asked EAC to look into that. Mike said EAC is generating a list of historic trees to mark throughout the Township.   
2. Old Business
   1. Community Day Table – Mark, Patty, Donna, Jamie, and Tom volunteered to staff the table at Community Day.
   2. Schoolhouse Tours – Donna and Cathy served as tour guides in August and welcomed 10 visitors. September 7th tours will be staffed by Mark and Donna. October 5 is the final tour of the season – Cathy and Leah are signed up, but we’d like the whole group to attend for pictures and celebration. Tom suggested for this year that we could have refreshments at the tour in October.
   3. Historic Preservation Ordinance – A subgroup of the Commission has spent some time reworking the HPO to address some of the concerns raised by historic property owners. Mark confirmed that all members have had time to look at the list of properties under consideration and the updated ordinance. In the updated version, the process for approval has been streamlined. Don elaborated on how the process for building permits works currently to address some questions from Cathy. Patty asked about review consideration considering the Historical Commission’s meeting schedule. The draft states that “the application will be placed on the agenda for consideration review at the next regularly scheduled meeting, provided that such meeting is at least two weeks from the date of the complete submission.” Mark confirmed that the wait could be up to four weeks depending on the date of application for a building permit. Patty asked about demolition review. Mark stated that applications for demolition would come through the Historical Commission first who can ask for additional information and then can make a recommendation to the Board of Commissioners who will make the final decision. The same applies to demolition by neglect. Tom asked how the Board of Commissioners would be informed. Don explained that he would add the item to the BoC’s workshop agenda for discussion. Patty asked for clarification on how the Historical Commission will be informed. Don explained that the staff will be responsible for bringing things to the appropriate board and discussed the EAC’s potential proposal for a tree protection ordinance. Don emphasized that these types of topics have to be clearly defined in order to be enforceable. Don mentioned the possible need for language to permit the application in the case that the Historical Commission isn’t able to meet or have a quorum. Mark asked about the possibility of holding a meeting remotely – Don will check with Kristin on this.  Mark called for comments from the public. Adam Thomas commended the Commission for their efforts and asked a clarifying question about impacts of the ordinance on adjacent properties. Mark pointed out that it should apply to only major changes. 
      

Mark asked for a motion to approve Article 6 Historical Resources Protection Standards with the caveat that we will be adding language to section 15 to clarify timeclock regarding applicant approvals.

                     4. Caln Meetinghouse Updates
Mark updated the group on the status of the Meetinghouse: The attorneys for the Quakers and the Township have finished the language for the agreement. Noted Mikki McAllister’s work on the cemetery has provided the information needed to add the property to the PA Hallowed Grounds database. Patty asked about the cemetery across the street, which belongs to the East Bradford Friends. Separate conversations are taking place with the East Bradford Friends about that property, and they seem interested in dedicating that to the Township as well.

3. Sub-Committee Reports:

1. Membership – Nothing to report
   
2. Events – The BoC will consider the Cider, Donuts, and Carols event but it should be on their next agenda. December 6th is the day chosen to decorate. Tom proposed building a 6’ wreath for the barn and asked about getting approval from the BoC. HC will ask BoC.
   
3.  Spackman Farm – Mark mentioned the nice article in the Daily Local about the farm.
   
4.  Marketing And Social Media – Mark submitted a quiz for the most recent Township Newsletter. Planning another one for next month. Abbey recorded some footage at the last Schoolhouse tour for our promo video.
   
5. Historical Preservation – Tom reported that the Lloyd Farmhouse hasn’t had any changes. Mainline Health was at the last Planning Commission meeting for preliminary/final land development – no vote was made. Caln Elementary and Lloyd Ave pumphouse will be addressed in the future. Vickers House are being worked on.

7. OCHS Liaison Report – Patty described the new exhibit that the OCHS will be putting up in the lobby at the Township building featuring vintage clothing. The Lincoln Highway marker has been paid for by a donor and the group is discussing a place to put it.  Patty asked to be included in any discussions regarding the Meetinghouse.
   
8. Finance Update – Donna provided a finance update: the Spackman Farm picnic expenses are $3,000 under budget and the overall budget has an available balance of $13,000.

4.1. Cathy requested removal of the Adopt A Highway sign across from her house. Mark offered to draft a letter to PennDOT to be voted on at the next meeting.

   1.  Recommendations for Park Taskforce – Mark presented a draft letter regarding the Spackman-Davis Farmhouse priorities for the Commission to consider sending to the new Kings Highway Park Taskforce. After discussion, the Historical Commission voted to send the document to the Parks and Rec Board for consideration to co-sign and to submit it to the new Kings Highway Park Taskforce. Motion passed 6-0.
   2.  Date to decorate Spackman (December 6) – Mark proposed setting a date to decorate the farm for the holidays. The group agreed that December 6th would likely work for the majority of members. Motion passed 6-0.
   3.  Date for carols, donuts, and hot cider – The group discussed hosting a caroling event at the Farm to coincide with the OCHS House Tour and only open to OCHS Tour ticket-holders. Patty offered to discuss the idea with OCHS. Abbey will make sure that the Township is notified and find out what we need to do to confirm the event. The group voted to seek approval from the township and to coordinate with OCHS. Motion passed 6-0.
2. Old Business
   1. Picnic Recap – All agreed that everything went really well this year – Mark asked members to make a list of notes to save for next year. Abbey mentioned that the parking lot was only half full, so we could have accommodated additional guests.
   2. Schoolhouse Tours – On Sunday, June 6 Lorraine and Jamie led the tours. There were five visitors. We still need tour guides for August 3rd. Mark and Tom met with resident Joe Santoro who is interested in history, in the hope of recruiting him to the Commission. CASD hosted a teambuilding scavenger hunt this week and the schoolhouse was included as a location. The group briefly discussed what to do with donations that come in for the schoolhouse. Abbey will get some options from Lisa.
   3. 250 Planning – We held an initial discussion but need to revisit our plan after not receiving a grant funding. Abbey suggested scheduling another meeting to start confirming an event schedule so that OCHS can get their trolley booked.

   1. Schoolhouse Tours – Donna, Chris, and Tom had 11 visitors on June 1, including the Edges paper boy, who recalled the schoolhouse being moved from Edge Lane. Prompted by a guest’s question, Tom confirmed that our schoolhouse is the only remaining Hexagonal Schoolhouse in the state. Lorraine and Jamie are signed up for Sunday, July 6th. We still need tour guides for August. Abbey will connect Tom and Mark with a new resident who wants a tour and may be a new recruit for the Commission. Mark reminded everyone to take photos of the tours.

   6.  CALN AT RISK – Lloyd Farm corn was planted. Main Line Health had their conditional use application approved by the Board of Commissioners.
   7. OCHS LIASON REPORT – OCHS is installing five new signs for historic buildings.

4. Picnic Planning – Commission members cleaned inside to prepare the house for the picnic. About 120 people have registered for the event with around 60% purchasing lunches. Abbey sent an email to last year’s attendees inviting them to this year’s picnic. Mark and Abbey will coordinate on Friday for outreach to those who have signed up. Mark went through the event checklist and discussed outstanding items. Mark rented 30 tables and table clothes, 200 chairs, a large fan, and stations to rope off the doors. He outlined the event map for the group. We went through all of the antiques and decorations for staging the house and made a plan where to pick up which items. We then discussed the event schedule and volunteer assignments. Total expenses to date include buses, rentals, magnets, wristband, and décor purchases at $7299 total.
5. ADDITIONAL BUSINESS:
   1. EAC guests – Lindsey and Abbey updated the group on the progress of the Environmental Advisory Council which had its first meeting this month. EAC members will be attending other board/commission meetings to brief those groups and get feedback on items in the Sustainability report that may apply to them.
   2. Patty reported that OCHS volunteers will be helping out with the Coatesville Town Tour on June 26. Mark reminded everyone about the CCHPN dinner on the 25th and that the Brandywine Battlefield Task Force is meeting on the 26th at Thornbury Farm.
